Architecture in EducationJanuary 2007 Architecture in Education AIA Philadelphia
Architecture in Education is a program of the Philadelphia Chapter of the American Institute of Architects. It brings architects, landscape architects, and other design experts into the classroom to help students learn how cities are made, the relationship between the natural and built environment, how design affects human behavior, and how students can influence their built environments.
Internationally acknowledged as a model for K-12 built environment education, AIE centers on an 8-week program where volunteer architects and architecture students volunteer their time and visit a classroom once a week for a one-and-a-half hour period. They work with the teacher to connect students to the world of architecture and city design. The Spring 2007 semester runs from mid-February to mid-May, with the opening meeting on February 8th. Although AIE is local to Philadelphia, it can serve as a model for other programs with the help of the Architecture in Education idea book. A poster is also available through this link. | |
