National and Global Youth Service DayMay 2007 (Updated May 15, 2007) Millions of youth got involved in their communities during the most recent N & GYSD, held on April 20-22, 2007. Click the link below to find out how youth volunteers contributed in your area.
National & Global Youth Service Day (N & GYSD) is the largest service event in the world, mobilizing millions of young people from the U.S. and abroad to identify and address the needs of their communities through service. Organized by Youth Service America, N & GYSD encourages youth to make service and civic engagement a part of their lives for years to come.
During N & GYSD, youth "tutor young children, engage in disaster relief, register new voters, educate their communities about good nutrition, distribute HIV/AIDs prevention materials and meet many more community needs through their service" (from the website). N & GYSD is a catalyst event: service projects continue well after the weekend.
The next N & GYSD will be held April 25-27, 2008.
The website has a large selection of tools to aid service projects at any time of the year. From the first link above, click on the "N & GYSD Tools" link under the "GYSD" header on the blue navigation bar near the top of the page. It also has a collection of inspiring photographs of youth projects from previous years. The site is an excellent online resource for young idealists.
