Chicago: City of Big Shoulders
Date: Sunday, April 14
Time: 1:30PM - 4:30PM
Chicago is a planned city. This tour will provide
a unique opportunity to view the results of
planning that started in the 1800s. See examples
of development and redevelopment in all parts
of the city, and learn about its current status as an
international hub for finance and commerce, culture,
health care, telecommunications, education, and
transportation. Travel from the center city Loop,
with its commerce and culture and fast-growing
residential area, to the North Side Old Town and
Lincoln Park neighborhoods and historic Wrigley
Field, to the West Side and Logan Square, Humboldt
Park, and Garfield Park. Ride through Chicago’s
emerald necklace, a 26-mile boulevard system, to
Near South and West Side medical centers and
university area megadevelopments. Finally, see the
South Side neighborhoods of Kenwood, Oakwood,
and Hyde Park, site of the original 1893 World’s
Fair and the University of Chicago. After a spin
through Washington and Jackson Parks, the tour
returns to the Loop along the lakefront, providing
views of Chicago’s magnificent skyline, passing by
McCormick Place, the largest convention center in
North America, and historic Soldier Field, home of
the Chicago Bears. Transportation: Motorcoach.
