What are the major challenges facing our society in the next decades—and how do they impact the work of planners? In 2011 fellows from APA chapters in the burgeoning Pacific Northwest organized a symposium to explore these questions. The group has since created a regional vision, developed a research agenda, and initiated a process for legislative reform. Bio: Jill Sterrett, FAICP is an accomplished professional planner who specializes in local community planning with a focus on climate change and sustainability. For ten years, she served as director of the regional Seattle office of EDAW, Inc., an international urban design, planning and landscape design firm. Currently, she works as an independent consultant (Sterrett Consulting, LLC), and holds an appointment as an Adjunct Faculty with the Urban Design and Planning program at the University of Washington, where she teaches course in urban sustainability.
