Bio: David Morley, AICP, is a Senior Research Associate with the American Planning Association, as well as APA's Planning Advisory Service Coordinator and Co-editor of Zoning Practice. Since 2007 he has contributed to APA research projects on topics including brownfields redevelopment, complete streets, urban agriculture, shrinking cities, solar energy, and disaster recovery. Morley has authored feature articles for APA publications including Planning, Zoning Practice, and PAS Memo on topics such as the use of computer simulation in development review, brownfields redevelopment, vacant land management, and land-use classification. Apart from his contributions to research projects and APA publications, Morley provides customized research on a daily basis for PAS subscribers. He coordinates and hosts a monthly after-hours lecture series titled Tuesdays at APA–Chicago and has facilitated workshops on community-based brownfield redevelopment strategies, and participated in numerous conference sessions and webinars on topics related to land-use regulation, solar energy use, revitalizing commercial corridors, design review, and brownfields.
Education: Morley has a master's degree in Urban Planning and Policy from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Bio: Eileen Figel is an independent planning consultant focusing on planning, community and economic development, and public policy. She previously served as the founding director for the Institute for Comprehensive Community Development, a non-profit venture of LISC designed to build the capacity of community developers and others engaged in comprehensive community development. Figel also served as Mayor Richard M. Daley’s First Deputy Commissioner for the City of Chicago Department of Planning and Development, and has worked as a municipal planner for the cities of Baltimore, Long Beach, and Highland Park, Illinois.
Education: Figel holds a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the University of Illinois, and a bachelor’s degree in management science with a minor in mathematics from the University of California at San Diego.
