A Writing Competition on Urban Design and Preservation

Deadline: November 1, 2008

The APA Urban Design and Preservation Division announces a writing competition for undergraduate and graduate students. The student who submits the best entry will receive a copy of Wiley Graphic Standards' Planning and Urban Design Standards and a $200 voucher for the APA Book Store. The competition will be announced at the 2008 APA National Planning Conference and will also be advertised through the Division's website.

Entrants may choose from one of the following questions:

  • What role do/should planners and/or preservationists play in the development of the public realm?
  • Can/should there be a normative standard for urban design in planning?
  • What are the most critical regulatory challenges that impede effective urban design or preservation and how might these challenges be addressed?

Articles must be written by current undergraduate or graduate students who are members of the Division or become members at the time of submission.

Articles should not exceed 1,500 words.
