The National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) has announced a grant funding opportunity for green infrastructure projects in parks.
The grant opportunity is part of the Great Urban Parks Campaign, which APA is a leading project partner. The campaign is specifically focusing on increasing and improving the use of green infrastructure in parks — particularly those located in underserved communities.
The purpose of the grant is to:
- Increase public access to recreational opportunities and access to nature via parks in underserved low-income communities and communities of color.
- Improve environmental quality and increased hazard mitigation by reducing flooding, improving the site’s ability to hold and retain stormwater, improving water quality, improving wildlife habitat and increasing biodiversity.
- Improve environmental quality of life through green infrastructure solutions to stormwater management.
Grants of up to $575,000 will be awarded. Applications for funding must be submitted online and are due by April 29, 2016.
