APA Staff News: August 2018

This month, APA welcomes three new staff members.

  • Accounting Manager

    Kathy Fry

    Kathy is responsible for all aspects of accounting, including financial reporting, analysis, budgets, accounts payable, taxes, and financial controls. She brings to APA an extensive background in accounting and financial systems, most recently as Manager of General Accounting for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America. Kathy, who works in APA’s Chicago office, has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Accounting from the University of St. Thomas in St. Paul, Minnesota.
  • LMS Manager

    Bekki Missaggia

    Bekki assumed the new position of LMS Manager, also based in Chicago. As the subject matter expert on APA Learn — the association’s new learning management system — Bekki will collaborate with staff in all departments to maximize the system’s use and effectiveness. Bekki has an extensive background in education development and e-learning management, and was the Education (LMS) Manager at the Academy of General Dentistry. She has a Bachelor of Science degree in Public Relations from Illinois State University.
  • government affairs associate

    Derek Segars

    Derek manages the day-to-day operations of APA’s Planners’ Advocacy Network, supports the association’s legislative advocacy, and contributes to digital advocacy initiatives and policy-related outreach campaigns. A Detroit native, he has degrees in Political Science and Sociology from Western Michigan University. Derek previously worked with the Michigan state legislature, Detroit's Federal District Court, and multiple local campaigns. Recently, he completed a yearlong policy fellowship. Derek works in APA’s Washington office.
