APA Staff News — February 2019

Four new staff members have joined APA, working in our Chicago office. Welcome to APA!

    Stephanie Bickel

    Stephanie Bickel will support marketing efforts promoting APA events, education, and research programs. She will also assist with developing content, editing, and producing Interact — APA's member e-newsletter — and other communications. Stephanie earned a bachelor's degree in journalism from the University of Kansas, where she was the Digital Managing Editor of the university website and social media channels. She created a variety of electronic and print content in her most recent role as a Senior Alumni Relations Consultant for a membership organization.

    Brenna Donegan

    Brenna Donegan will support outreach and recognition programs related to media relations, National Planning Awards, National Community Planning Month, Great Places in America, and more. She also will administer and promote positive member experiences with APA's online community, APA Engage. Brenna graduated with honors from Loyola University in Chicago and comes to APA from the Oak Lawn (Illinois) Park District, where she was a marketing and PR intern.

    Research Associate

    Johamary Peña

    Jo Peña has been an intern and temp in APA's Research Department since May 2017. In her new position she will collaborate with partners on sponsored research, contribute to the Planning Advisory Service, and support affiliated groups. Jo expects to receive a Master's in Urban Planning and Policy at the University of Illinois at Chicago in May. She served as President of the Urban Planning and Policy Student Association, which received an Outstanding PSO Award from APA in 2018. A Miami native, Jo earned a B.S. in Environmental Science and Policy, a B.A. in Sociology, and a Certificate in Urban Studies from the University of South Florida.

  • IT Generalist

    Uriel Saenz

    Uri Saenz provides IT technical support for APA's offices in Chicago and Washington. He received a degree in integrated marketing communications from Illinois State University and worked in marketing after graduating. However, Uri was drawn toward information technology and went back to school to get IT certifications and training. He has worked in the IT field ever since, most recently as a freelance consultant for Chicago-area small businesses.
