Driving Detroit: The Quest for Respect in the Motor City
UCLA Extension, Public Policy Program
Over the last half century, Detroit has transformed from an industrial and innovative powerhouse into a dysfunctional metropolis where the automobile industry has been failing and the population has been declining.
Prof. George Galster will present his findings on how and why Detroit has transformed, applying economics, sociology, political science, geography, history, and psychology. He will discuss how Detroit’s auto-motive economic base and housing development system have greatly frustrated the population’s search for basic physical, social, and psychological resources.
