Savannah State University 2014 Urban Planning Conference

The conference title is “Resilience Planning for Historic and Vulnerable Population”. The conference will explore how resilience planning can be utilized to (1) identify potential disaster impacts on historic properties and sites and museum collections, (2) identify demographics of vulnerable populations, (3) leverage resources to protect and respond from disasters and disruptions, and (4) recover and maintain a good quality of life
The conference will begin at 8:30 a.m. for registration and continue with the plenary session at 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. The plenary session will include the award presentations: Urban Planning Award for Structural Resilience and Urban Planning Award for Community Resilience. The first morning concurrent session will have lectures on identifying potential disaster impacts on historic building and collections, the resiliency of historic buildings at Savannah State University (SSU) campus and history of resilient communities. The second morning session will have three lectures on heritage preservation, demographics and vulnerability to disasters and resiliency for services. The first afternoon session will have three lectures on preservation and recovery of historic building in Savannah's historic districts, integrating preparedness across campus, and building a culture of preparedness in historic and vulnerable communities. The final session will focus on reinvestment, restoration and repair, resilience planning at the neighborhood level, and climate resiliency for coastal communities. All sessions are pending approval from the American Planning Association for the CM credits for American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP) holders.
All sessions will be held at the Savannah State University's New Student Union Building, second floor. All sessions are free and open to the public.
