The City of Henderson, Nevada, applied for and was awarded a $60,000 Invest Health grant by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation and Reinvestment Fund. The grant allowed the city to explore a broad range of ideas, including increasing access to nutritious food, expanding access to preventive health care, promoting active-transportation and housing-rehabilitation efforts; and ultimately creating an action plan at the neighborhood level. The initiative focused on one of Henderson's oldest and most vulnerable areas – the Pittman Neighborhood. The resulting Pittman Neighborhood Revitalization Plan serves as a catalyst for reinvestment and redevelopment in the area. This case study will explore addressing important health and socioeconomic issues at the neighborhood level, leveraging community resources, and finding creative funding sources and innovative partnerships to kick start implementation efforts.
