MORE SESSION DETAILS

This moderated panel discussion will investigate the strengths, the motivations, and the mentoring needs of a new generation of urban planners rising through junior and mid-level positions. A distinguished panel of fellows, managers, and academics — all established in their careers — will discuss the skill sets these planners bring to the field and the tools in which they need mentoring. How can you ensure your team is leveraging the full capacity and potential of junior and mid-level planners? In what skills do junior planners need mentoring? How can you best support your mid-level planning staff to take full advantage of their potential? Topics will include trends in new graduates; skills of emerging planners on the market today; multicultural, racial, and gender diversity; employee benefits that matter (both formal and informal); best practice in mentoring mid-level planners into management; fostering leadership and critical thinking; and identifying your successors.
