MORE SESSION DETAILS

The purpose of this panel is to check in with transit agency joint development staff to understand how joint- development policies are working (or not) to create diverse communities. Increasingly, transit agencies are adopting affordable-housing goals related to their joint development portfolios to address housing affordability and minimize displacement. However, because transit agencies are not city agencies, entitlement and permitting processes are not necessarily subject to internal streamlining measure that might be available for developments partnering with local housing authorities or other departments. Each agency has its own policies and challenges related to implementing joint development policies that create diverse communities. Each agency has also been working with local planners and city staff to address their specific challenges. Explore the successes, challenges, and lessons learned at each transit agency in order to drive the conversation of how cities can better coordinate with transit agencies to assist joint development programs in meeting shared goals of creating diverse communities. Leave equipped with tools for planners and transit agencies to work together to achieve good joint-development projects that foster diversity and minimize displacement.
