MORE SESSION DETAILS

Jamaica’s Logistics Hub Initiative (JLHI) capitalizes on the country’s strategic geographic location and maritime and aviation infrastructure to transform the Caribbean island-nation into the world’s next global transshipment and logistics hub. The JLHI aims to reach global hub status, like Singapore and Dubai, creating a gateway interconnecting the Americas to global markets. But what does it take to give Jamaica a competitive advantage? Learn from Jamaica’s process, as their planners and economists describe the “spicy curried chicken” of master plans, focused on integrated transportation and logistics-based redevelopment. The transformative ingredients? The stock is the strategic port and airport improvements. The rice and beans is a multimodal transportation network connecting business parks and logistics centers. The vegetables are new towns with walkable mixed-use centers, open space, and retraining centers. Lastly, the hot sauce is a policy and regulatory framework with enough incentives to entice transshipping giants, foreign investment, and job growth. Already in the oven, JLHI build out will dish up to $26 billion in economic growth; two new towns, including an aerotropolis; and more than 50,000 jobs and households. Gain insights on how transportation planning and logistics hubs can help fuel national economic growth.
