For decades, planning has emphasized the inclusion of diverse people and stakeholders affected by planning decisions. It assumed that participants would join the process according to common expectations about why and how they participate. But in today's political and cultural environment, those assumptions aren't necessarily true. In this session, we will use interactive dialogue, presentation, role play and other techniques to explore ways to engage effectively with people who hold varied beliefs about planning and government. Bring your own experiences and look forward to active participation, with practical lessons and tools you can take back to your own community.
