Downtown Parking Study

City of Cedar Falls

Cedar Falls, IA

The City of Cedar Falls is located in northeast Iowa, has an estimated population of 40,000, and is home to the University of Northern Iowa. The City is soliciting proposals from qualified consulting firms to assess the parking supply and demand for the downtown area referenced within and known as the Central Business District, and make recommendations regarding the current public parking system and spaces within the District.  The City is experiencing increasing interest in new development in the downtown area, including high density housing and office. With an existing and thriving, historic mainstreet character and adjacency to Cedar River recreational amenities, the City is looking for pro-active solutions to the current and future parking needs, along with cost estimates and feasibility analysis for any recommendation in the final report.

Recommendations are to be based on a comprehensive analysis of the impact to existing and future local downtown businesses and land use utilization from the current and future parking supply and demand in the study area delineated below. The study shall assess parking needs, including disability parking and loading zones, a pay for parking system and parking enforcement, as well as an assessment of the current zoning requirements for parking. The results of the study and related prioritized recommendations will be presented to the Parking Study Committee and the Cedar Falls City Council.
