Cultural Interpretive Plan

The City of Raleigh Parks, Recreation, and Cultural Resources (PRCR) Department is inviting firms to submit qualifications to develop a Cultural Interpretation Plan for Dorothea Dix Park that will guide and enhance the emotional, intellectual, and physical connections to park visitors.
The goal of this plan is to develop site-specific culturally responsive approaches for highlighting moments in Dix Park history that elevate historical and cultural consciousness and reveal underlying meaning and voices.
PRCR requires a consultant team that demonstrates the following:
- Multi-disciplinary team with experience developing cultural interpretative plans and implementation toolkits
- Understanding and commitment to centering racial and social equity
- Experience conducting, analyzing, and utilizing historic research to accurately interpret and amplify stories from a wide array of cross-cultural perspectives
- Experience conducting equitable engagement that is community-centered and community-driven
- Proven ability to capture local knowledge and lived experiences by identifying stakeholders and facilitating conversations
- Expertise in disseminating culturally sensitive information to a wide range of stakeholders
- Experience identifying opportunities and resources needed to move from plan to implementation
- Proven ability to create a framework and recommendations for innovative implementation including signage and displays, oral histories and storytelling, interactive exhibits, programming, and public art.
