The City of Jackson is requesting proposals from qualified planning firms to prepare the City's Civic Master Plan. In the late 1960’s, the City of Jackson developed a comprehensive land use plan. This plan, over time, has been updated through a series of small area plans in parts of the City where development was occurring. In addition to the small area plans, once the City was designated as a metropolitan planning organization (MPO) in 1982, long range transportation plans were developed to guide improvements and the selection of transportation improvement projects.

In recent time, after the 2003 tornado devastated Downtown Jackson and parts of East Jackson, the City has prepared three redevelopment plans. However, the City desires to develop an overall community vision and create a Civic Master Plan that becomes the framework to tie all these various plans together into a concise, comprehensive, and implementable strategy to direct and shape this community for the next twenty (20) years.

The Plan is the principal guide for use in the daily planning decisions regarding growth, development, and regulation of current and future development within the city limits of the City and its planning region. The Civic Master Plan shall guide all development regulations including, but not limited to, land use and related maps, subdivisions and site plans, roadway plans, public improvements, public facilities, and all city regulatory actions relating to land use, subdivision, development and redevelopment. The Civic Master Plan is a living document that is periodically revised in accordance with changing socioeconomic conditions and development.
