Public Schools Interest Group
Our public schools are critical public institutions. The Public Schools Interest Group (PSIG) was established in September 2015 to allow planners to collaborate and to promote the role of planning in advancing strong public schools.
The mission of the interest group is to create stronger linkages between the planning profession and public school systems in order to support and strengthen public schools and, in so doing, create stronger neighborhoods and stronger communities.
The interest group includes over 200 members, including many planning academics, school facility planners, city/county planners, and private consultants. Membership is open to anyone who is interested in supporting strong public schools.
The PSIG provides a forum for sharing best practices and developing policy and planning tools. This includes holding annual meetings at the APA National Planning Conference, promoting education-related sessions at national and local planning conferences, hosting a listserv, issuing a newsletter, participating in the development of APA Policy Guides, and developing working papers that explore topics such as school choice, planners' role in education outcomes, and collaboration between school districts and local governments.
To join the APA Public Schools Interest Group, contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org. When you join, we will send you information about our listserv, which is hosted by the University of Colorado, Denver.
If you would like to support the creation of a Public Schools Division in APA, please sign our petition for Division Status.
