At the time of the Industrial Revolution, health professionals and planners often worked together in order to promote healthy places where people could live. Over time, people separated from environmental factors that could harm health. Similarly, planners and health professionals worked less together until now. After all, planners plan for places that will be desirable for people to be. Health professionals know individuals are most likely to be healthy in healthy environments. As we plan our neighborhoods and cities, a multidiscipline approach is once again needed. In February 2010, through an Executive Order, the Governor Schwarzenegger brought together eighteen State agencies, departments, offices to form the Health in All Polices Task Force to work with the Strategic Growth Council. What was their vision? What steps can be taken locally? What does this mean for health and planning? This session will provide the overview and inspiration to reunite health and planning.
