Part 2 of the mobile workshop will discuss planning for Rapid Bus – a new bus rapid transit service that just launched on June 8, 2014. April De Jesus (Transportation Planner, SANDAG) will discuss the long-range planning for route #235 that begins at the Escondido Transit Center and ends in downtown San Diego. Ms. De Jesus will also discuss the long range planning for other BRT service in the region. Denis Desmond (Manager of Planning, MTS) will follow, by presenting on the short term planning for BRT from an operations perspective. The mobile workshop will continue on the Rapid Bus and will travel south. Mr. Desmond will continue the discussion on-board by discussing pricing, marketing, and other operational and design factors along the route. The mobile workshop will stop at the newly constructed Sabre Springs Transit Center where Ray Traynor (Transportation Demand Management Program Manager, SANDAG) will discuss the idea of “mobility hubs.” Mr. Traynor will discuss efforts to get people to and from the Sabre Springs Transit Center, the role of parking, and highlight the newly installed bike station. The mobile workshop will continue south from Sabre Springs Transit Center to the Santa Fe Depot downtown. On this leg of the Rapid Bus, Mr. Desmond will discuss the integration of BRT with different transit modes such as the trolley.
