This workshop will present the benefits of hazard mitigation through sustainability planning with a 4-step strategy to reduce disaster risks and workshop to form a coherent community resilience doctrine. The green building movement has traditionally focused on the environmental aspects of the construction industry. Now, with the recovery effort from Super storm Sandy underway, communities are considering policy issues while building to meet the challenge of the next natural or man-made disaster. The need for enhanced resiliency of our infrastructure is becoming increasingly important nationally and globally and is a key component to economic, societal and environmental viability.
