This session will look at “Community Overload” from a planning loss of sense of place. This may result from building modifications that have changed the looks of the community, changes in the built landscape, or changes in the business mix. All of these may change a community’s image, and its sense of place, often in unintended, and unplanned, ways. This session will discuss such changes and how to address them through planning, such as an enhancement of pedestrian-oriented commercial districts, plus a discussion of the tools a community needs to effectively plan, manage and enhance their commercial district’s image and performance.
