Session 1A: Resources, technical assistance, grants, and other funding sources This session will provide attendees with information regarding the resources for historic preservation, and the technical assistance available. Detailed information regarding programs that can assist with historic preservation will be discussed. Some of these programs include the Florida Main Street Program and Certified Local Government Program. This session will also discuss details regarding the Florida Trust for Historic Preservation, National Trust for Historic Preservation, 1,000 Friends of Florida, and Regional Planning Councils; as well as how these trusts and agencies can be utilized for local historic preservation efforts. This session will also discuss Resource Management and how it is the legal authority provided by a community’s historic preservation ordinance to preserve that community's resources through historic designation and design review. Heritage Tourism will be discussed, and how local tourism agencies such as VISIT FLORIDA, Convention and Visitors Bureaus, and Florida Humanities Council can help with marketing the historic resources and their value to the community and visitors. Incentives, Grants, and other funding sources available for historic preservation will be discussed. There will be discussions regarding the Division of Historical Resources, Trust for Public Land, and Community Redevelopment Agencies, and how these groups can aid in projects such as historical marker placement, community education projects, survey & planning projects, and acquisition and development projects.
