The transportation sector is being transformed. New and innovative transportation services (such as ZipCar, Uber, and Lyft) are making it easier and more convenient for car-free and car-lite living. Demand for electric vehicles is steadily growing as vehicle options become technologically diverse and more available and attractive to consumers. Funding and support for active transportation continues to increase and will be an important strategy for delivering a high quality of life to residents while curbing greenhouse gas emissions. The format of this session will be brief presentations by researchers from the Institute of Transportation Studies at UC Davis who will provide an overview of leading-edge research on new transportation services and technologies; trends and challenges for electric vehicles; and the role of active transportation in reducing greenhouse gas emissions. Presentations will be followed by panel reaction and group dialogue.
