This workshop will provide valuable information about the complexity of care provided in nursing homes and the preparedness steps necessary to help ensure the safety of vulnerable patients residing in this healthcare setting. Attendees will obtain a deeper understanding of the context in which nursing homes operate and their priorities for emergency preparedness. Topics will include external/internal factors nursing homes must consider in preparing for a disaster event, with a focus on clinical factors; evacuation decision making criteria; and strategies for maintaining the nursing home’s continuum of care, regardless of the evacuation decision.
