Take this opportunity to explore the challenges faced and overcome by the South Wilmington Planning Network during its inception and continuous work in the Southbridge community. The South Wilmington Planning Network is a clear example of an innovative, neighborhood-level, collaborative initiative. The Network promotes community health, livability and environmental sustainability through collaborative projects in the impoverished Southbridge section of Wilmington. Key successes of this 40-member network of agencies and residents include: support for an annual community festival, creation and expansion of vegetable gardening, various projects to improve neighborhood beautification and walkability, promoting awareness and community dialogue related to frequent flooding and health-related issues, and tracking the implementation of the 2006 Neighborhood Plan. The session will feature a background presentation about the Network – its founding, structure and activities. This will be followed by an overview of the 19801/19802 Asthma Action Plan, an exemplary Network project lead by Nemours with funding from the Center for Medicaid and Medicare Innovation. An interactive panel discussion with Network leaders will round out the session.
