Overview

Workshop participants will tour the Claymont area, visiting the Claymont Steel Mill and the Claymont Train Station before viewing the Claymont Stone School and Darley House. Participants will walk the developing mixed-use “Darley Green” project and view the commercial and residential development that accompanies the new Claymont Library. Speakers will introduce participants to Claymont’s rich early history and development through the 20th century, as well as the enabling Hometown Overlay legislation, the creation of the Claymont Renaissance Development Corporation, the role of Claymont’s Design Review Advisory Committee, and the public-private partnerships that have helped change Claymont’s built environment. The workshop will cover Claymont’s proximity to the Delaware River and Philadelphia, the community’s historic sites and transportation access, and how these resources are contributing to Claymont’s future. Water and snacks will be provided. Walking shoes are recommended.
