Overview

Join City College of New York urban design professor and author June Williamson in a hands-on workshop session. Participants will work in small groups to sketch urban designs to retrofit prototypical examples of suburban form—the low-density, single-use, auto-dependent settings found throughout urbanized America. Informed by examples in June’s books Retrofitting Suburbia and Designing Suburban Futures, you will explore architecture, planning, landscape, financing and policy tactics for transforming these places to meet strategic goals: for walkability and transit, to support more diverse populations—with a mix of uses, to repair discontinuities in the landscape, to better manage storm water, to add public space, and to help provide more resilient suburban futures.
