Incorporating “sustainability” into plans and planning as a core mission has become the latest rage! Many communities desire sustainable development but struggle with outdated plans and regulations that hinder key projects and lack resources to make necessary updates. Hear the American Planning Association's President, William Anderson, discuss APA’s Sustaining Places Initiative, a multi-year, multi-faceted program to define the role of planning in addressing all human settlement issues relating to sustainability, from rural areas and small town to cities and metropolitan regions. Hear fellow panelists Connie Holland, Director of Delaware’s Office of State Planning Coordination, and Rich Hall, Secretary of Maryland’s Department of Planning, discuss their respective State’s efforts at incorporating sustainability into planning at the State and local levels generally, and in local government comprehensive plans in particular.
