Overview

This session will showcase current efforts by the DOT&PF and local governments to address the challenges of maintaining regional mobility while supporting growth and development along major highways. This session will acquaint participants with the concept of corridor planning and learn how it is an effective tool for integrating land use and transportation along many of Alaska’s National Highway System facilities. Participants will become familiar with the classification and mission of major roadway systems and learn what is unique about Alaska’s situation. The audience will acquire a working knowledge of how local land use decisions on sub-division platting and secondary road networks can make or break the regional transportation network.
