Overview

The World Trade Center redevelopment tends to be overlooked as cohesive landscape architecture. Individual elements—the Freedom Tower or the memorial—are well known, but this session will reveal the fully integrated project, addressing design, public realm, infrastructure, security, and transit, all on a complex, high-profile, dense urban site. Learning Objectives - Understand how this redevelopment represents best practices in urban design. - Understand how infrastructure was conceived in relation to the community. - Learn about the technical and security challenges of rebuilding the streets. - Learn about the design of Liberty Park, a critical element of the WTC public realm.
