This session examines the design and construction challenges of elevating 1,700 feet of Chicago’s Lake Front Trail, the busiest multi-use trail in the country, above existing and proposed parks to eliminate conflicts and increase capacity. Learning Objectives - Understand how challenging sites and user needs lead to optimal design and construction solutions. Gain insight into common design constraints in densely populated urban areas. - Increase knowledge of multimodal planning challenges and design considerations. - Learn how to navigate regulatory challenges, including Lake Front protection ordinance and superfund site. Understand the partnership with the Parks Department and MPEA to complete this project. - Understanding the impact and importance of the aesthetic of major infrastructure.
