The campus landscape framework is a landscape-specific tool for understanding the past, evaluating the present, and charting the future of the University of Washington’s Seattle campus. Panelists discuss the origin and evolution of this unusual document and its immediate influence on the ongoing evolution of the campus landscape. Learning Objectives - Understand the difference between a Campus Master Plan and a Campus Landscape Framework and appreciate what circumstances call for one or the other. - Appreciate the challenge of giving university clients a tool to advance landscape initiatives in face of tight budgets and a tendency to take the landscape for granted. - Illustrate the ongoing dialogue between design and planning that helps keep principles fresh in the ongoing evolution of a place. - Hear the multiple perspectives that inform all planning efforts – client, framework designer, and implementing designer.
