Overview

After 50+ years of operations, the University City Science Center is in the midst of a dramatic change that will impact Greater Philadelphias role in the innovation ecosystem. The Center is leveraging its history as the oldest and largest urban research park in the U.S. as it partners with Wexford Science & Technology to potentially double in size. Science Center President & CEO Stephen S. Tang, Ph.D., MBA will explore how the Science Center evolved from an urban renewal project to a thriving innovation hub that the Brookings Institution has identified as a key driver behind University City’s Innovation District. Dr. Tang will also look at the Science Center’s expansion plans and their impact on the surrounding neighborhood. Along the way he’ll cover the expansion as a physical manifestation of the Science Center’s role in the city as a source of jobs and innovation and how the Science Center attracts new business because of its location, (proximity to educational institutions, etc.) a thoughtful, well-designed physical plant, walkability, and intermodal potential- nearness to local, regional and national resources.
