Agencies, the University, and the private sector provide web mapping services that allow GIS users to exploit geospatial data. This session will demonstrate and provide a cookbook for use of web mapping services provided by the UAF Geographic Information Network of Alaska, the Alaska DNR, and other local, state, and federal agencies. Many data sets—including orthoimagery, elevation data, land ownership data, and topo maps—are available for use in desktop GIS, including ArcMAP, QGIS, and Google Earth. The session will show web map services in use and provide users with a catalog of web services useful for planning.
