Overview

Participants will join San Antonio Water System (SAWS) to take a tour of their new inland desalination plant. The state of the art H2Oaks plant, which is finalizing construction, is set to start operation in October, 2016.  SAWS will treat brackish groundwater from the Wilcox aquifer using reverse osmosis technology to supply San Antonio with 12 million gallons of water a day in Phase 1. In a unique efficiency of use, SAWS also has on the same property an aquifer storage and recovery facility that stores excess permitted water from the Edwards Aquifer in the Carrizo Aquifer for use during our dry South Texas summers and produces local Carrizo groundwater.  Cost: $40
