What you may not know before you embark on a journey to create or update a comprehensive plan or on a major planning effort, is that the majority of what needs to be done is community engagement. To get the best and most successful project, it is important to put the work in on the front end, and throughout the project, to partner with community members and market the planning effort. In this interactive session, innovative community engagement strategies, which are marketing and grassroots-based, will be discussed and case studies will be highlighted. You will learn a "nuts and bolts" approach for setting a plan's outreach efforts up for success, from start to finish. A facilitated discussion of best practices and proven strategies will also be held to share ideas from planning efforts around the state, and interactive engagement exercises will be demonstrated.
