Overview

This session will discuss the Reed v Gilbert Supreme Court case that affects virtually every city's sign ordinance.  The purposes of the session are to 1. Explain why we should review our sign ordinances following Reed v Gilbert, 2. Explain where the authority is for cities to even regulate signs, 3. Identify the common problem areas in sign ordinances post Reed, 4. Identify issues that might lurk within state law, 5. Show examples of different signs that could present issues, and 6. Make recommendations for options on how to proceed with updates to a city's sign ordinance.
