This session will provide participants with in-depth principles and tools to address conflict management in the planning profession. Experienced presenters will first focus on the key principles for project success, including defining project success, identifying areas of potential challenge, solid document preparation, overcoming barriers, participatory approaches and techniques to reach yes, ground rules for productive deliberation, acknowledge and legitimize (ALDDD tool), and planning guidelines for successful negotiating, with a focus on interests, not positions. The presenters will discuss case studies and engage in a roundtable discussion on how to apply the principles. The participants will also engage in an in-depth simulated planning-related role play to further learn how to apply the principles. This session is supported by the California Planning Roundtable (CPR).
