Overview

Brian Mooney FAICP (San Diego) and Jim Minnick (Imperial County) will provide a lecture on the history of the Salton Sea, from the prehistoric era to present day. The lecture includes an overview of the geological conditions that formed the Salton Sink & Lake Cahuilla, the Native American/Tribal communities that inhabited the region, the Spanish/Mexican/early American eras, the development of agriculture in Imperial Valley, the 1905 formation of the Salton Sea, the development of the Salton Sea into a resort and recreational destination, and the steady decline of the Salton Sea from the 70s to the present day.
