This is a tour of the World Trade Center site in Lower Manhattan, focusing on the outdoor public realm that is now one of the premier tourist attractions in New York City.  The tour will visit the recently-opened Liberty Park and WTC grounds with a presentation on the integration of this public space with the City’s fabric and the planning efforts involved to make this a successful and inclusive outdoor environment.  The tour also includes a visit to the WTC Observatory Deck to show the planning context for this site in the greater New York cityscape.

Key objectives include:

  • Incorporating successful design elements into a district-wide planning effort

  • How the WTC district balances community, stakeholder & security needs in a highly visited public space

  • Vehicular & pedestrian security measures that can be seamlessly integrated into a successful public space

  • Managing public & private partnerships in planning
