Overview

Wagner Custom always goes big. Founded in 2006 by Pete Wagner, this small startup was immediately recognized as a pioneer of new, custom ski designs. Learn how this company consults, designs, and fabricates skis custom to your "ski DNA''.  Stalk-It, a company that creates innovative, eco-friendly snowboards, skateboards and surfboards from a bio-mass product that is typically considered waste, will also talk about their process, and provide light refreshments in the Stalk-It Lounge.  Cost: $35

This tour will take you inside Wagner Skis, and examine the new ways in which technology is being utilized to craft skis. Representatives from the Stalk-it will be there as well to discuss how their product is using corn stalk to make snowboards skis and surfboards, and what that means for sustainability. Town of Mountain Village Representatives will be there to discuss how business attraction efforts occur in the region, and how small industry operations can work in rural areas.

Learning Objectives:

1. Sustainability efforts in the ski industry

2. Business attraction efforts in the region

3. How skis are made, and what this means for resort communities in CO

The ski industry is big business in Colorado. Learning about the manufacturing process, sustainability efforts, and business attraction strategies assist planners in bringing outdoor manufacturers to resort communities. We will not be promoting any of the products shown in this mobile tour; instead we will use the manufacturing process to illustrate how manufacturing outdoor goods has changed, and can now be accomplished in rural areas. We will discover how Wagner Custom Skis are using technology to customize skis; learn about Stalk-it products, and how they use corn-stalk to produce high quality materials; and learn about business attraction and retention efforts in the region.
