Overview

For more than 40 years, Telluride has supported a culture of the arts with the support of Telluride Arts, the first non-profit organization in the region. In 2012, Telluride Arts established the Telluride Arts District and became one of the first Certified Creative Districts in the state. This tour will highlight some of the galleries and art spaces in the district, the future home of Telluride Arts at the Transfer Warehouse, and how this small mountain town became a creative community. Cost: $40

Learning Objectives:

1. The community impacts of supporting a creative economy.
2. How Telluride became a certified creative district.
3. How Telluride Arts has partnered with the community to build a new center for the arts in a historic building.

The tour will be led by the Executive Director of Telluride Arts, Kate Jones, who will discuss how Telluride came to be a Certified Creative Community, and how the organization has leveraged partnerships to rehabilitate a historic ruin into a new home for the Telluride Arts District and a multi-use arts facility.
