Overview

In 2016, the Minneapolis City Council passed a resolution to create a Workgroup charged with developing a Green Zone initiative – a place-based policy initiative aimed at improving health and supporting economic development using environmentally conscious efforts in communities that face the cumulative effects of environmental pollution, as well as social, political and economic vulnerability.

Hear from the facilitator of the Green Zones Workgroup about how the Workgroup members were selected, what the process was that the Workgroup went through to develop recommendations, and what was ultimately recommended to City Council. Highlights of the process and learnings will include addressing racial bias and white privilege, handling community trauma and meeting basic needs, understanding systemic and institutional barriers, and learning how to listen.
