Pedaling Food, Cycling, and Eco-tourism: St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop Trail

APA Florida Chapter

Thursday, September 7, 2017
10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. EDT

This session explores the development of the St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop (SJR2CLoop) Trail and associated AG/Ecotourism Corridor in the tri-county agricultural area of Flagler, St. Johns and Putnam Counties.  Learn from community activists and planners how the Agricultural corridor compliments the 260-mile St. Johns River-to-Sea Loop Trail and the Gullah Geechee Heritage Corridor. The panel will share how seasonal “jump ups” welcome long distance cyclists/visitors and how chefs’ tables showcase produce found along the former Henry Flagler era railway and associated farms. This session covers the challenges and successes of creating the SJR2CLoop Trail and converting a railway that once hauled potatoes and melons to the Flagler hotels and resorts to a food corridor.
