Economic and transportation models are important long range planning tools used by both regional and local planning agencies to make important policy decisions. However, planners usually have a poor understanding of how these models work and how to explain their results to elected officials and the public. The purpose of this session is to acquaint attendees with different types of modeling techniques including input-output analysis, cost benefit analysis, and transportation modeling. Panelists will explain the assumptions and methodologies behind these models, their practical uses, and what planners should look for when evaluating their results.
