Overview

The Governor’s Office of Planning and Research (OPR) has been preparing a thorough update of the General Plan Guidelines (GPG). OPR is responsible for updating the General Plan Guidelines – the “how to” resource for drafting a general plan in California. The last update to the GPG was approximately 13 years ago. The updated GPG includes statutory references, planning resources, data, tools, and model policies to help cities and counties update their general plans. The GPG update was informed by extensive outreach and collaboration. OPR also monitors general plan implementation with annual progress reports from cities and counties. This session will provide members with an overview and interactive discussion of the key components of the GPG update.
