Overview

Since the launching of the Honolulu ePlans for building permits in 2012, the Department of Planning and Permitting (DPP) has since expanded improvement of its permit application processes into the electronic submission and review of construction and grading Plans. One of the objectives of ePlans is to improve DPP’s building permitting and construction review approval services by achieving business process efficiency which will also facilitate the internal processing of building and construction projects of organizations, communities, and industries as a whole.  Through the digital process, ePlans is able to enhance project member collaboration, communication, and transparency, and project status reporting.  During this session, an overview of the challenges of manual processes and how the newly upgraded system has been used to address them will be provided.  Examples of potential cost and time savings that can be realized by companies who participate in this digital process will also be discussed, as well as information on digital standards, electronic signatures, and system requirements.
